Tartans of the Rozelle Interchange | 2019
For three years WestConnex has driven division across the Inner West. My tartans are a response to the occupying forces of WCX, whose contractors have now swiftly surveyed, sprayed and usurped the very fabric of Rozelle… drilling, digging, defoliating and demolishing… whilst creating check-points and detours, garbed in explosive and reflective cloth.

Interestingly, the 1937 double-brick boundary wall of our home studio lies just centimetres outside WestConnex’s ‘50-metre zone’ (measured from the southern edge of the proposed Iron Cove Link Tunnel). Inside this zone WCX is obliged to offer residents a free building inspection in lieu of possible future cracking and subsidence. Tunnelling, we are told, will begin in mid-2020 and last for 18 months.

Shadowbarks | 2019
Finding solace on an afternoon stroll in Callan Park from the emotional destruction that a gigantic new motorway is wreaking upon our local community, I asked myself: how can I express my gratitude to these life-giving trees, how can I pay homage to the past, how can I be a better visitor?

Extending collisions of hip hop and alternative punk experimentation, Get Buff and Jewellery depict the band’s lived urban experience... modding cars, Chinese heritage, making ends meet, menace and love... grinding out an identity across the tunnels and tollways of suburban Sydney. Shady Nasty are Kevin Stathis (lead singer/guitar), Haydn Green (bass) and Luca Watson (drums).
